Why You Want to Be Healthy

Pretty much everyone I meet wants to lose a few pounds. Television shows like The Biggest Loser are a phenomenon. It seems that everyone in America is obsessed with weight loss. But why?

Part of the problem is that we tend to focus on what we don't want. We focus on being overweight. We eat fat-free snacks (which, by the way, may be higher in calories and sugar, or flavored with artificial sweetener) that either don't satisfy us or trick us into eating more. We go on fad diets like Atkins and South Beach, and then wonder why we gain the weight back the minute the diet is over.

Our focus shouldn't be on losing weight to fit into a certain size pants, or to fit into a dream wedding dress. The focus should be to get fit for life. Healthy people are generally lean due to the lifestyle they lead. Healthy people make the choice to exercise, eat good foods, and indulge in other things (that might not be so healthy) in moderation.

In a perfect world, diets wouldn't exist. People would create nutrition plans that work for them, each individually. Generalized diets that say that certain food groups should be avoided are irresponsible and, frankly, just won't last.

This blog will offer tips on how to get healthier and stronger for life. I will feature different types of exercise and help you find those that are best for you. For some, it may be yoga, while others might prefer weight training, or running. I will help you understand that no food is off-limits, so that you can still have that slice of birthday cake without feeling an ounce of guilt.
